Description
Winemaking
The grapes come from the Clos d’en Ferran estate, located near the village of Porrera, with soils rich in Devonian ferrous slate, the oldest rock in the DOQ Priorat (400 million years old). It contains a high amount of quartz and oxides, giving it a reddish-yellowish appearance. The vineyard plantings include: Cariñena (3.5 ha); Garnacha (1.5 ha); and mixed vineyards of Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo, Viognier, and some Pedro Ximénez (1 ha). Grape selection begins in the vineyard and continues at the sorting table. Stems are removed without crushing the grapes. The grapes are stored under controlled conditions and undergo long, low-temperature macerations in oak vats with a submerged cap. The must is naturally pumped over, using gravity to achieve optimal polyphenol extraction. Pressing is done with a vertical pneumatic press, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. This wine is bottled unfiltered.
Grapes from the Clos d’en Ferran plot. The wine is aged for a total of 15 months in new French oak.
